| Southeast Texas Families look to Modern Prefab Homes |
Ok, Sharing these designs may seem far fetched, but think about all of the cargo containers we have in our Southeast Texas area, and how many more are to come. Also with the shortage of housing for droves of new workers coming into our area for the chemical and construction industries, maybe this will give a few people something to think about...
There are designers using shipping containers to provide inovative housing for not only third world countries, but for practical, space saving, economical living.
Two visionary architects, Robert Humble and Joel Egan , are behind the "Cargotechure" design shown above |
Designer- Rocio Romero
Her LV Kit Home was originally envisioned as an 1150 sq. ft. vacation house with two bedrooms and two baths. If that's not enough space for your family, the LVL design is a lengthened version that offers up to 2830 sq. ft. of living space with a developed basement.
Kit cost starts at $35,935 plus shipping.
- Cost of complete dwelling after adding local labor and materials estimated at $120-$195 per sq ft.
- Manufacturing facility and Show Home are in Perryville, Missouri

The Sunset® Breezehouse™ home was designed by Michelle Kaufmann Designs and Sunset Magazine for green, healthy living. The key feature of the Sunset Breezehouse is the BreezeSpace at the center of the home. The 2-br/2-ba, 1,830 square foot modular home is a flexible, eco-oriented, light-filled home. A third 248 sf module can be easily added as a third bedroom. This module can either be attached to the second bedroom, or designed as a flexible free-standing pavilion which can be used as a guest bedroom, office, or pool house. 4 bedroom and larger versions are available on the above design as well. |
